Traditional Vietnamese culture honoured in Korea

On October 9, Vietnam participated in the Traditional Cultural Festival titled “HaHa Asian Festival” for the international labour market, which was co-organised by the Uljeongbu city of Gyeonggi province and the Korea International Labour Foundation.

The sixth edition of the event was held with the aim of helping the labour sectors of many different countries.

Making a speech at the opening ceremony, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea, Mr. Tran Trong Binh thanked the leaders of Uljeong city and the representatives from Korean agencies for creating an opportunity for foreign workers in general, and Vietnamese workers in particular, to strengthen international solidarity.

According to Mr. Binh, this event was also a good chance for the Vietnamese labour sector to introduce and promote their own traditional culture to Koreans and other international friends.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also encouraged the labour sectors from surrounding countries in general and the Vietnamese labour sector in particular to make the most of opportunities to learn, improve their skills and study the Korean language, working toward integrating into Korean culture.

In the framework of the festival, workers will participate in many activities such as a fashion show, cooking contest and folk games, including chasing ducks (Vietnam), bamboo dancing (the Philippines), and traditional dancing (Thailand).

Vietnam's showcase section, with a conical hat, Vietnamese dress and traditional dishes - such as pho and nem (bite-sized crunchy spring rolls) - attracted many Korean people and international labour workers.

Besides Vietnam, the festival has attracted a large number of local residents and thousands of workers from the countries of Cambodia, Thailand, Mongolia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nepal, Uzbeskistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, currently working in Korea. (Source: CPV)
